Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any equipment to participate?

Equipment needed to curl are a clean pair of curling shoes or runners (sneakers), a broom and a slider.
There are a limited amount of sliders and brooms available at the Callie Curling Club for participants to use.

Wearing clean shoes while curling is really important for a few key reasons:

1. Ice Surface Protection: The ice in curling needs to be perfectly smooth and clean. Dirt or debris from dirty shoes can create bumps or scratches, which affect how the stones slide and curl.

2. Safety: Dirty shoes can have less grip or cause someone to slip unexpectedly. Clean shoes help maintain proper traction, especially on the hack and while sweeping.

3. Performance: Curlers need consistent footwork and balance. Any debris stuck to shoes can throw off balance or footing during a slide, leading to poor delivery or sweeping efficiency.

4. Respect for the Game: Curling has a strong tradition of sportsmanship and respect—for teammates, opponents, and the ice. Wearing clean shoes shows care for the playing conditions and the spirit of the game.

Basically, clean shoes help ensure fair play, safety, and good performance. It’s a small but essential detail.

Helmets are recommended.

How can I join the league?

Form a team of four and sign up by contacting us directly at Financial_League@Sasktel.net

We look forward to welcoming you to the ice!

Can I sign up as an individual?

While our curling league is structured around teams of four, we frequently have individual players register. We do our best to match individuals with others to form full teams or place them on existing teams that are looking for additional players. It’s a great way to meet new people and get involved in the league!

What are the costs involved in registering.

There are two fees involved with registering.

1. League Fee – Payable to the Financial Curling League

The primary registration fee is $900 per team or $225 per individual, payable to the Financial Curling League. Payment can be made via cash, check, or e-transfer to financial_league@SaskTel.net. This fee covers ice rental for the season and includes a lunch social event at the end of the season.

2. Curl Sask Fee – Collected by the Caledonian Curling Club

An additional $15 fee per participant is required by the Caledonian Curling Club to cover the Curl Sask membership. This fee supports curling initiatives across the province, including the development of curling programs, training and certification for ice technicians and umpires, and the promotion of curling within local communities.

Please ensure both fees are submitted prior to the start of the season. Let us know if you have any questions regarding the payment process or fee breakdown.
